Looking For Ten “And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake (Genesis 18:32).” The preceding verse is Abraham’s final plea to God to spare the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. God told Abraham that the cities would be spared if there were but 10 righteous people living there. For those familiar with the Bible, the fate of those cities is well known and is found in Genesis 19:24-25: Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone. and fire from the LORD out of heaven; And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. Would God find 10 righteous people in the city where you live? Would He find 1? A person is righteous when they do the will of God (Psalm 1:1-3; Matthew 25:37-40; Galatians 3:6). If God came looking for the righteous in your city, would you be found among them? Be that righteousness that is sorely needed today. You may be the only way some people learn the truth.
