RE: Unisys licensing of GIF/LZW technology

 From the horse's mouth:

http://it.about.com/compute/it/library/weekly/aa090199.htm

The long and short of it:

If you create GIF images in software that's already licensed, i.e,
Photoshop, Freehand, etc., you're already covered. They are yours to
use however you like.

On the other hand, if you write an FB app that creates GIF images or
uses LZW compression-- and/or possibly decompression-- technology,
you have a licensing issue. In that case, it's attorney time.

This is one of those topics that's turning into folklore, kinda like
cutting off your mattress tag will land you in the pen.

BTW, a friend of a friend heard about a good deal on surplus $50 WWII
Jeeps still packed in cosmoline...

To archaic?

Let's start a new one:

Is there really a warehouse in New Jersey filled with surplus Desert
Storm-era Hummers still in the crate complete with machine-gun
mountings going for $150 each in lots of five?
