>P.S. as part of my degree requirements I should take a 'human' >language. For instance, for astronomy majors, German, Russian, or >French is recommended. Can anyone recommend a good language for >Computer Science? I can choose between French, German, Italian, >Latin, and Spanish. Heather: Let's see -- what language would be best? Considering this list, let me guess... French will most likely be suggested. Of course, to really be able to speak it good, in addition to French 101 you also have to take Rude 101. :-) But, on the brighter side, not being French trying to speak it means that no one there will listen to you anyway, so you might as well take different language. Knowing German might provide for some job security the next time they try to take over the world. I hear that Italy is a great place to visit, thus knowing some Italian might be the best choice. Knowing Latin would help the next time your doctor writes a prescription for you, but outside of that what good is it? Ah... Spanish. That's a language I grew up with, actually only during junior high and high school in Los Angeles, CA. I remember hearing Spanish every time I got my butt kicked by my fellow schoolmates. All in all. I wouldn't take a language if I could get around it. tedd -- http://sperling.com
