> There are reasons people pay money for FB or RB, > or any programming environment.... > so they don't have to deal with that. >>absolutely. >>and maybe futurebasic isn't the tool for you. Goto: http://www.stazsoftware.com/fb.html Here's what it says "If you want to learn how to program on the Mac, FutureBASIC^3 is the tool for you." It also says "This is a real basic language that adapts to your style whether you are a beginner or a seasoned professional. " "Learn"? "Beginner"? Doesn't sound like FB^3 to me. And I have used FB on some small projects. I just think the user interface and help system in FB^3 sucks. And the AppleTalk "filter" that was supposed to add AppleTalk functionality is far from adequate, what I expected or easy to use. (TCP/IP is missing too) >>if you bought it from staz directly, >>i bet you he'd give you your money back. As someone pointed out (and I said elsewhere)....he did. I didn't want it. I want FB to be better. I got a deal for you, let me say what I don't like and say where I think there is room for improvments to FB and I'll let you post messages saying "I offer no suggetions on how to improve the FB environment, please keep the text editor and everything else just the way it is for me." :) You want to know the sad truth? I bet a lot of the people who buy FB get it and install it and end up not even using it......ahhhh.....actually, I'm not even going to get into my reasons why here. >i maintain - still - that i am willing to >be proved wrong, and if jeff makes himself >rich building and selling such an ide for fb Someone already beat me to it. Have you seen how active the RealBasic message board is (subscribe to it and see)? And the number of related web sites it has spawned? Including some that offer tutorials on how to learn it? RB is a hot product now. And there are reasons for that.....and I'm willing to bet Staz & Company know why. Despite the fact you guys can see no reason to change things. >however the real question is: > - did jeff finally get his appletalk code to work? > and teh real answer is: > - how? > he looked on the cd, where we told him to look. The AppleTalk Zones example, as I've said days ago, is not on my CD's. But it seems to be a moot point. Since it contains no documentation to explain how it works. I can't build on it. You know, I've been trying to use FB for my AppleTalk project for weeks ....and I'm getting NOWHERE (despite the efforts of some off you here....which I really do appreciate). I was supposed to have this printer working weeks ago. Maybe I ought to just buy RB and SuperSocket (see below) and let you guys live in 1969 ("text" was very big back then....along with punch cards) :) The RealBasic AppleTalk SuperSocket.... http://www.essencesw.com/Plugins/supersocket.html ...yeh, it's $100 bucks. But at least I don't have to spend time trying to learn AppleTalk toolbox functions and how to translate them into something FB can understand....Time = Money. And my head is starting to hurt from banging heads with people who want to keep the "status quo".....the worst thing you can do in the ever changing computer and software industry ;) Jeff-
