Actually, I believe it is amazingly fast but upon
inspection of the code in assembly language I thought
that I could somehow squeeze out more speed.  
I experimented a of experimentation didn't even get
me to the break even point.  I lost out every time.
This told me either this is as fast as it was going
to get or I just couldn't come up with a faster way.

I was convinced that it could be done better and I
just wasn't seeing it.
