Hi,
   I haven't got airport but I have been looking into it for my home 
network but hopefully I can still be of some help.

   Which version of the base station do you have? If it is the old 
version, with just the one RJ45 connector on it then you need to either 
use a hub or a crossover cable, otherwise if it is the new one, with two 
RJ45 connectors make sure that you plug it into the WAN port rather than 
the LAN port.
