hi all
Here's a little mystery to keep occupied in this time
of real calm over the summer...
take two apps - call them version 1 and version 2.
When i shut down the mac, version 1 quits, no problem.
With version 2, i get a message from the finder saying
'couldn't get the app to quit... etc.'
OK, sitting comfortably? Now before you rush to say
whatever.. here's the rest of the info:
* the SIZE ressource is rigourously the same in both.
* the AEhandling is rigourously the same in both,
and it comes from Andy's hidden new project
(you know the one that appears when you choose 'New'
in the project manager which should be a guarantee
of quality and anyway, it works fine in version 1)
* the only difference between the two, is that I have
rewritten the app - hence version 1 & 2. Now that the
obvious have been dealt with, and as I have 2 left feet
when trying to dance, we go into the realms of speculation:
i know that the ae handler is in place, so could it be possible
that somehow i overwrite the memory devoted to this in such a
way that the app doesn't crash, just can't deal with the AE?
Could there be another element that I haven't thought of?
How to debug this without learning MacsBug and knowing that
debug II can't deal with AE's? Did sandra really (oops sorry).
All help (even if its just - bin there done that and couldn't
solve it either) welcomed.
