I have a user of one of my applications, a text editor type app, that has a
question I can not answer so I am asking for help. 

He is a japanese user and wants to (I think) put japanese text directly into
an edit field (I assume he means by copying or drag & drop which my app
supports) but says he cannot, that he can only put it in by "inline input"
which I assume means by typing it in one character at a time. He said that a
programmer friend says that "inline input" can be found in Inside Macintosh.
My copy (old version) has no such thing. 

I am having trouble understanding his question so I may be way off but are
there any restrictions for entering japanese characters into an edit field?
