I've ust come back from a meeting in a indows software development
firm, where at the end of talk, i asked them the question.
Their answer:
* there is no public information on Word 6,7,97,98 file formats
* the information does exist, as those working under contract
with MS can obtain it
* to obtain the info you must sign a NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement)
(which could mean, yes, we've got it, but we can't even say that
we've got it...)
which comes down to...
* there is no public information on Word 6,7,97,98 file formats
I then asked: Can one reverse engineer the format?
They looked at the ceiling (probably contemplating the height
of my folly ;-) and said:
* it'd be damn hard
* I wouldn't try it
* It seems to be a series of BLOBs (Binary Large OBject)
encapsulated in each other...
Hope that this isn't too discouraging.
