sounds like they've got an inadvertent minus sign in their program...

when i was in graduate school at u.c.l.a. in social psychology,
whenever we got significant results in the _opposite_ direction,
we'd just multiply our dependent variable by minus one.

since this is a rather advanced form of "cleaning" the data,
and it was "invented" by fellow grad student marty p. gehart,
we ended up calling this "the gehart transformation", and
everyone was very admiring of this form of "martinizing" the data...
