Non-profit groups
The requirements for group setup have been relaxed to include non-profit
organizations who do some level of promotion to sustain themselves
financially. I specifically think of churches, Christian musicians,
non-profit counseling ministries, and even Christian political parties.
If you are in, or have friends in organizations like these, and take the time
to invite them to use our services, here is some text you could include in
your email, describing what email groups can do for them:
_______________________
Very simply, an email group lets one person email one email address, and have
the mail broadcast to hundreds or thousands of addresses (people) who have
subscribed or shown an interest in a topic or organization.
The groups work in one of two basic ways: announce, or discussion.
In "announce" mode, someone like you would send an email telling others of an
upcoming meeting. Unless someone emails you back with a question, that's
pretty much the end of the communication.
In "discussion" mode, the Reply-To address is set to the group address instead
of the sender's email address, so all members of the group can freely discuss
issues with all other group members, just by emailing the one group address.
Membership to the groups can be guarded, as can posting messages to the group
(each message can require moderator approval before being sent to the group)
if needed.
Beyond email, once the messages flow to the groups, they are available via web
browser for either public or private (member only) access, based on your
needs. Many other features (file sharing, calendars, etc) are protected
inside the MimerDesk system, once people register for an account and are
added to the group.
You can see a features comparison at
